Radio 4000

Each week, 4000 adolescent girls and young women in sub-Saharan Africa acquire HIV. Despite accounting for 10 per cent of the region’s population, adolescent girls and young women make up one in four of all new HIV infections across Eastern and Southern Africa and six in seven new HIV infections among adolescents, aged 15-19 years.

UNICEF Eastern and Southern Africa Regional Office, in partnership with the Global Fund and the HER Voice Fund, launched Radio 4000, a ground-breaking podcast series on HIV/AIDS and SRHR. The podcast shares stories, best practices, and tools for those working to improve HIV and SRHR services for these young women in the region. It aims to amplify young women’s voices, experiences, and efforts to improve their access to services.

The episodes focus on topics such as:

  • Relationship dynamics
  • Adolescent Girls and Young Women (AGYW) leadership
  • Condoms: Availability, Accessibility, and Acceptability
  • Men and Boys
  • Adolescent sensitive/friendly health services
  • Supporting adolescents living with HIV
